The sights, tastes, and smells of an amazing meal with friends helps create amazing memories that we cherish for years to come.

At The Chateau by Highlands, an Active Adult Rental Community in Braselton GA, we are so blessed to have incredible residents who make this community amazing.

Recently one of our residents treated us to a Sausage Stromboli cooking class and we were able to enjoy the final result.

She also said that we could share the recipe with you (see below).

Sausage Stromboli

Ingredients

1 pre-rolled pizza dough (bakery section of Publix)

16 oz. shredded mozzarella

6 links of sweet Italian sausage

1 large, sweet onion (optional)

2 peppers (optional) – red, yellow or green

Olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

1.      Remove dough from refrigerator 2 hours before using and bring to room temperature.

2.      Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

3.      Remove sausage from its casings and sauté on top of stove. Break up the sausage into small pieces (crumbles) while sautéing. Sauté until meat is fully cooked and slightly browned.  Place to the side when done.

4.      (Optional) Slice onion and sauté in olive oil until golden brown (just enough oil to coat the sauté pan). Place to the side when cooked.

5.      (Optional) Slice pepper and remove seeds.  Place in bowl and season with salt and pepper.  Drizzle enough olive oil to lightly coat the peppers.  Mix well.  You can choose to roast them at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 20 minutes or sauté on stove stop until softened. Place to the side when cooked.

6.      Taking the dough, begin stretching it with your hands until you have formed a large square piece of dough (about as wide as a large cookie baking sheet).

7.      Spread the shredded mozzarella across the dough, leaving a 1-inch border at the top end.

8.      (Optional) Spread the onions and peppers over the mozzarella.

9.      Spread the sauteed sausage over the onions and peppers or over the mozzarella.

10.  Starting from the bottom, begin rolling the dough toward the top of the dough (like a jelly roll).  About halfway up, bring the sides in and continue rolling until you reach the top.  You should have an area of the dough at the top that has no stuffing on it.  Pull this section of dough over the rolled dough to ensure that no stuffing falls out.

11.  Rub olive oil over the entire dough and place the seam side down on a slightly greased (olive oil) cookie sheet.

12.  Cook for approx. 40 minutes or until the stromboli is golden brown.

  1. Hi I’m a 71 yr old Navy veteran desperately looking for a place to live. I need a place start the 20th of this month! I only get 1370 a month but can probably get aid and attendance too. I can’t hear very well so please text or email me. I think I may need independent living 1 bedroom apartment. I don’t have transportation either. valerieaudino6@gmail.com or 7063386580
